For educators
Every lake on this site is a free, real-data teaching object: an interactive 3D basin built from actual Ontario MNRF depth surveys, with live weather, fish data, and an on-map measuring tool. The site maps the Ontario lakes that have a usable provincial depth survey, not every lake, so check whether one near your school is here.
What a classroom can do with it
- Earth science — read real contour lines in 3D, compare deep Canadian Shield lakes with shallow southern ones, and see how depth shapes a lake.
- Life science — explore the fish anglers report in Ontario’s Fish ON-Line trip logs; discuss why species live where they do.
- Geography & data literacy — measure distances and depths on the map, compare lakes across districts and counties, and trace data to its public sources (every page cites them).
Built school-friendly
No accounts, no sign-ins, and no ad networks or cross-site advertising trackers — the pages are plain, fast, and work on Chromebooks. Basic site analytics help us understand aggregate use. Everything derives from public government data, cited on every page.
Tell us how you’d use it
We’re exploring lesson-ready material for Ontario classrooms. If that interests you, we’d genuinely like to hear what would help — grade level, subject, and what you’d want from a lake page.
For teachers and administrators — students shouldn’t send personal information. Depth data is historical survey reference, not for navigation.
